PHS Summer Enrichment Program Overview

Our Summer Enrichment Program provides opportunities for students with high academic ability to pursue advanced coursework or individual study during the summer months. This program is designed for students seeking single subject acceleration or personal academic growth through external or in-house courses. Please note: This program does not include Driver Education-Theory or PE/Health courses.

Key Details

Eligibility Criteria:

• Minimum 85% average in current Honors or GHP course.

• Proficiency in PSSAs, Keystone Exams, and standardized tests (PSAT/ACT/SAT).

• Good attendance and discipline records.

Registration Deadline: Friday, April 17, 2026. Late submissions will incur a $50 late fee. Students whose requests for summer enrichment are not approved will be notified on or before May 15, 2026.

Comprehensive Exam: Required for all summer enrichment.

• Students taking the course through PHS will take the final comprehensive exam on July 30, 2026 in person at PHS from 9am - 11am. 

• Students taking the course through an online approved accredited program must sign-up to take the final comprehensive exam as follows:

  • August 3-6, 2026, at Parkland High School.

Registration Process

1. Meet with your guidance counselor during the 2026-2027 course registration period (starting February 2026) to discuss options and eligibility. Options for summer enrichment are:

• Coursework at an accredited 2- or 4-year college/university 
• Online study (through an accredited program like Keystone School Online, CTY, etc.)
• Online coursework in math through PHS. 

2. Click and Submit the Parkland High School Summer Enrichment Application - Summer 2026.

• NOTE that the deadline for completing this application and remitting payment (if taking a summer enrichment course through PHS) is Friday, April 17, 2026. Forms and payment received after April 17 will require a $50 late fee in addition to the course cost. 
• When students complete the Summer Enrichment Application- Summer 2026, it does not guarantee that they will be able to move forward with their studies.  All requests will be carefully reviewed by Mrs. Plattner and the student’s guidance counselor.  

3. Remit payment (if applicable).

Details for Summer Enrichment

External Approved Summer Enrichment Program Coursework

• Courses may be completed at an accredited college/university or through an approved online provider (e.g., Keystone School Online, CTY).

• Students must:

  • Cover all associated tuition and fees.

  • Provide a transcript showing successful course completion. In order to complete the comprehensive exam, students must provide a transcript that shows the successful completion of the summer course.  This transcript must be submitted to Mrs. Plattner by the day that the student is scheduled to complete the exam or before.  Students will not be able to complete their exam if they have not supplied Mrs. Plattner with a copy of their transcript.  

  • Pass a Comprehensive Exam (85% for Honors/AP advancement, 75% for CP/GHP advancement).

External Approved Summer Enrichment Program Comprehensive Exam Details:

• Dates: August 3-6, 2026.

• Location: Parkland High School, Main Office.

• Time: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

PHS Online Summer Math Courses

• Courses offered: Algebra II GHP, Geometry GHP, College Algebra GHP, Precalculus.

• Format: Online, facilitated by PHS math teachers.

• Dates: June 15 - July 30, 2026 

Cost: $450 per course (non-refundable). Financial assistance is not available.

PHS Online Math Course Requirements:

• Students must:

  • Complete all coursework and assessments.

  • Attend a final in-person exam on July 30, 2026 (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM).

  • Achieve a final grade of 85% for Honors/AP advancement or 75% for CP/GHP advancement.

PHS Online Math Course Time Commitment:

• Expect 4-6 hours of daily coursework.

• Support available through scheduled online office hours.

Additional Notes

• Approval is required for all summer enrichment courses.

• If a student takes a summer enrichment core course through an approved and accredited external program, it will not be on their PHS transcript. The student will receive a stand alone transcript from that program that can be included when applying for future education after graduation. 

• If a student takes an in-house Parkland School District math course, it will appear on the student's transcript, it will count towards their GPA and the student will receive credit. This is only for current high school students taking a course. If a student takes a summer course as a middle school student, it does not count towards their GPA or as a credit, but it will show up as enrichment on their transcript stating their final grade.

• Subsequent course scheduling depends on final grades and transcript submission.

• Changes to summer study plans must be approved by Mrs. Plattner.

  • Students taking the course through PHS will take the final comprehensive exam on July 30, 2026 in person at PHS from 9am - 11am. 

  • Students taking the course through an online approved accredited program must sign-up to take the final comprehensive exam as follows:

    • 8th Graders entering PHS: August 3-6, 2026, at Parkland High School.

    • 6th/7th Graders: Arranged with middle school guidance counselors by August 6, 2026. 

• Transcript Submission: Provide proof of successful course completion before the exam.

Course Details:

• Tuition: $450/course (no financial assistance available).

• Dates: June 15, 2026 – July 30, 2026

• Format: Online (via Edgenuity platform).

  • Self-paced with teacher facilitation.

  • Requires 4-6 hours/day of work.

• Final Exam: July 30, 2026 (in-person at PHS, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM).

Important Notes:

• Students may only register for one course.

• Students entering 9th grade: Successful completion qualifies students for the next course in the sequence:

  • 85% or higher: Advance to the next Honors/AP course.

  • 75%- 84%: Advance to the next CP/GHP course.

• Students entering 7th and 8th grade: Successful completion qualifies students for the next course in the sequence:

  • 85% or higher: Advance to the next Honors course. 

• Grades from these courses will not count toward yearly or cumulative averages for grades 6-8.

• All students taking the course through PHS will attend the final comprehensive exam on July 30, 2026 from 9am - 11am in person at Parkland High School. 

• 8th Graders entering PHS taking the course through an approved online accredited program:

PHS Summer Driver Education-Theory program Overview

The Driver Education-Theory course is a graduation requirement for all PHS students. This program is available during the summer for:

• Current 9th graders completing the requirement before 10th grade.
• Current 10th or 11th graders who have not taken or passed the course.
• Parkland School District residents (10th–12th grades) attending other schools (private, charter, homeschool, etc.).

Course Options

Students may choose between a face-to-face course at Parkland High School or one of two online options.

Option 1: PHS Face-to-Face Driver Theory Course

• Dates: Monday, June 15th - Friday, June 26th (no classes on June 19th; virtual class on  Friday, June 26)
• Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
• Location: Room D115, Parkland High School.
• Instructors:  Mr. Stephen Ott (otts@parklandsd.net)
• Cost: $175 per student (check or money order payable to Parkland School District).

Key Details:

• The course covers the same material as the semester-long school year class but in an accelerated 8-day format.
• Attendance: Students must attend all sessions to receive credit.
• Credit:
  • PHS students earn 0.25 PHS credit and a final grade (appears on transcript).
  • Non-PHS students receive a certificate of completion.
• A detailed information letter will be emailed to participants and their families one week before the course begins.

Option 2: Online Driver Theory Courses

Two online options are available for completing the Driver Education-Theory course.

Option A: CLIU #21 with Edward Savioz Driving School

• Details:
  • A self-paced, 30-hour online course.
  • Interactive, convenient, and easy to navigate.
  • Students must be 15 years or older to register.

Important Notes for Online Courses:

• Online courses are not affiliated with Parkland High School or Parkland School District.
• Families are responsible for registration and payment. 
• Students must submit a completion certificate to their PHS guidance counselor by Friday, August 21, 2026, as proof of fulfillment.
• Students will not receive the .25 credit and will not receive a grade as the course is off-campus. Students will make up this required .25 credit through other course selections at PHS.

PHS Summer Physical Education (PE) & Health Enrichment Program Overview

The Summer PE/Health course is available only for students with scheduling conflicts in the 2025–2026 school year, such as:

• Band/choir/orchestra conflicts.
• AP/Honors courses.
• PLTW courses.
• Emerging Health program through LCTI.

Note: Students who opt for late start, early release, or study halls in their schedules for 2026–2027 are not eligible for this summer course. Students must be approved for Summer PE & Health by their assigned guidance counselor and Mrs. Plattner.

Course Description

• A 6-week accelerated course combining physical fitness with health and safety activities.
• Delivered on-demand via Schoology.
• Weekly tasks include:
  • Physical fitness logs.
  • Assignments and assessments.
• Students must complete all assignments by July 24, 2026, to satisfy state and local PE/Health requirements.

Important:

• Accessing Schoology and CLEVER may not be available for students traveling abroad.
• Successful completion exempts students from scheduling PE/Health during the 2026–2027 school year.
