Class of 2020
Plans to Honor the Class of 2020
Our PHS administrative team has been working to plan alternative arrangements for many milestones that typically occur at the end of a PHS student's senior year. We'll post updates to this page as more information becomes finalized.
Graduation/Senior Affirmation Day on June 9th
We know that everyone wishes we could have an in-person graduation ceremony but we feel strongly that this rite of passage needs to happen on schedule as our students have many different plans after graduation which is why we are planning to have a Virtual Ceremony on June 9th. We have the PPL Center reserved for August 4th and will make a final decision by July 1st if we feel we will be able to hold an in-person graduation ceremony on August 4th. The virtual graduation ceremony will include the regular speeches, pomp and circumstance. Seniors will be recognized using their senior photos and each child's name will be recognized as they receive their diplomas.
The Senior Prom has been rescheduled to take place at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks on the only available date which is Sunday, July 19, from 1-6 PM (pending social distancing guidelines). Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of the situation and the massive coordination and planning that it takes to pull off this event, we need to cancel this year's Post Prom Party. A Senior Class Send-off will take place in lieu of the Post Prom Party.
Senior Class Send-off
A Senior Class Informal Send-off celebration is being planned for July 21st and will include fun activities, prizes, and the signing of yearbooks to take place at PHS on July 21st (time TBD and pending social distancing guidelines).
Virtual Awards/Scholarship Recognition Events & Performances
Academic, athletic and arts awards are a favorite tradition and include surprise awards for some seniors. Award presentations debut on the Parkland YouTube Channel and Parkland TV (Channel 65 on RCN and Channel 264 on Service Electric, or 102.9 for digital subscribers) and will be re-broadcasted throughout the summer and linked below:
May 14 - College Athlete Recognition Video - recognizing all athletes planning to play a sport in college (or view the list)
May 18 - Academic Awards Video (or view the list)
Scholarship Recognition Ceremony Video (or view the list)
May 27 - Athletic Awards
May 28 - Visual & Performing Arts Awards, (or view the list)
June 4 - Senior Cabaret Performances
We were pleased that the PHS Spring Musical cast, crew and pit were able to celebrate what would have been their opening night on April 15th via a virtual meeting that included this cast performance. Additionally, on April 17th, 46 schools throughout the Lehigh Valley honored senior athletes and healthcare workers by lighting up their stadiums during the Friday Night Lights event. The scoreboard displayed 20:20 with 19 yards to go and a 4th down to signify that COVID-19 is on its final down. All scoreboards and fields were lit up in Parkland in their honor and many posted Parkland Pride pictures and comments on the District's Facebook page. Service Electric also did a nice TV story about the event. The Visual and Performing Arts Department's annual Festival of the Arts is celebrated in this video.

Senior Graduation Lawn Signs
We are pleased to announce that PHS and the Parkland Education Foundation have worked together to fund and create lawn signs that will honor every PHS graduate! These signs will be delivered by being placed on the lawn of every senior's residence by PHS and Parkland Education Foundation staff and the local police departments. For those of you who have already purchased a yard sign, the Foundation will offer refunds, or you can choose to have your purchase put towards the Foundation's Celebrate Innovation Staff Grant Program and COVID-19 Emergency Teacher Grant Program. The Foundation will be emailing those who have purchased signs already with more information. The signs will be delivered and placed on lawns by mid-May. They look like the one below and will be customized with each student's first name:
Senior Recognition Webpage
We are creating a Senior Recognition webpage within the PHS website that will honor all seniors and include a teacher "shout out" message for every PHS senior. We'll email all students and families when this is complete.
The last chance to order a 2020 yearbook is June 1! Here is the ordering link: Par Key Yearbook Order Link
We are working with Josten's to arrange for yearbook delivery and expect them in late May. We will announce those details at a later date. Want to buy a yearbook for a senior who may not be able to afford one? Simply enter "Parkland" in the first name field and "Senior" in the last name field at this link.
