Health Room Information

As the end of the school year approaches, here are a few reminders from the Health Room:

Class of 2019 Seniors

Seniors should have received their immunization record in the mail with their Health Report Card. Please keep this in a secure place as this information may be requested for college or employment.

Rising Seniors

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has changed the requirements for your child’s immunization schedule.  All seniors during the 2019-2020 school year must have a SECOND DOSE of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). This vaccination must be given at age 16 or older and prior to the first day of school in September, the student will be excluded from school.

When your student receives this immunization, please forward a copy to the Health Room.

Rising Juniors

All students who will be in 11th grade in the 2019-2020 school year will need a physical exam. This is a State requirement. Forms were mailed home in February. Forms are also available on the PHS Website under Health Room at https://www.parklandsd.org/departments/student-services/health-services/health-forms. Please return these completed forms to the Health Room.

Medication Reminders

All medication currently in the Health Room must be picked up by a parent before the last day of school. Any medication remaining at the end of the school day on the last day of school will be discarded in an appropriate manner. Please contact the Health Room to arrange to pick up medication.

If your student requires medication next school year, please complete both sections of the Medication Administration Consent and Licensed Prescriber Order form over the summer.

New paperwork is required each school year for medication administration in school. If you had medication in the Health Room this year, paperwork will be e-mailed to you at the end of this school year.

All Health Forms are available on the PHS Website under Health Services at https://www.parklandsd.org/departments/student-services/health-services/health-forms.

This Summer

The Health Room staff are available during the summer months, but on a limited basis. If you have any medical concerns about your child to discuss with them, please leave a message and they will contact you when they are in the office.

Health Room Information

Eleventh Grade Physicals

All eleventh grade students should return their completed physical forms to the Health Room as soon as possible.  If you are planning to have your son/daughter’s physical done by the school physician, you need to notify the Health Room by March 12.

All tenth grade students should have been notified regarding the mandated physical for the eleventh grade. This can be done at the time your student gets his/her physical for their driver's permit, but may not be completed before July 1, 2018. The forms are located on the PHS website under HS links. Copies of the physical forms used for the driver's permit are accepted for the student's school physical. Please return the choice form to the Health Room as soon as possible to indicate how the physical will be completed.

Health Room Information

Prevention Information for Cold and Flu Season:

  • Wash hands frequently.
  • Get a flu shot.
  • Cover your cough.
  • Get adequate rest.
  • Eat healthy and nutritious foods.

Guidelines for Keeping Your Child Home from School:

Please keep your child home from school (even if they have a test or sporting event) if he or she is experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • fever of 100 degrees or more
  • vomiting/diarrhea
  • severe head cold
  • persistent cough
  • severe sore throat

This is the same criteria the Health Room uses to determine if students need to be sent home ill from school.

Students should not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

*Reminder: the Health Room does not have cold or allergy medicine.*

Eleventh Grade Physicals

All juniors should return their completed physical forms to the Health Room as soon as possible. If you would like the physical to be conducted by the school doctor, please contact the Health Room as soon as possible.

New Immunization Requirement - the meningitis vaccine is required on or after your student's 16th birthday.  Students currently in eleventh grade will be required to have this immunization on the first day of their senior year. The eleventh grade physical is a good time to complete this requirement.

All sophomores will soon receive paperwork for completing their mandated physical for the eleventh grade. This physical can be conducted when your student gets his or her physical for their driver's permit, but may not be completed before July 1, 2019. The form for the school physical you receive in the mail is the preferred form to use. However, copies of the physical forms used for the driver's permit are an acceptable substitute for the student's school physical. (Please return the "choice" form to the Health Room as soon as possible to indicate how the physical will be completed.)

Forms for the Health Room can be downloaded from the PHS website at https://www.parklandsd.org/departments/student-services/health-services/health-forms.

As always, if you have any questions for the Health Room do not hesitate to call 610-351-5616.
