Lehigh Valley’s continued growth and success depends on its people. To attract and retain employers who provide rewarding and family-sustaining career opportunities, Lehigh Valley must have a workforce with skills and attributes employers value in a rapidly changing world. Lehigh Valley’s educators are essential partners in this effort.
For more than five years, the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) has worked in collaboration with educators, employers, and local governments through an Education and Talent Supply Council to understand workforce needs and build a strong talent pipeline that provides opportunity for everyone to build fulfilling careers.
We are excited to share with you a product of that collaboration: a Hot Careers Guide that spans eight major employment sectors in the Lehigh Valley economy. This guide offers students a clear visual representation of career opportunities and provides a basis for teachers and counselors to encourage more in-depth career exploration based on students’ interests.
LVEDC prepared the guide with input from educators and employers and detailed research into Lehigh Valley's job market. All occupations listed in the guide employ more than 100 people in the Lehigh Valley or have been identified as growing or difficult-to-fill occupations by local employers. The selected occupations represent job titles that appeared most often in job postings by Lehigh Valley employers over the past year.
